![]() The last thing she wanted to do was speak publicly about her experience, but it ended up being the gateway to living a more fulfilling and meaningful life. She soon got involved in peer support initiatives where she got to meet people who had had experiences similar to hers, and she joined a speaker's bureau with a crew who spoke publicly about our experiences. She was diagnosed with a severe mental illness in 2008, which completely disrupted the trajectory of her life and who she thought she was as a person.
